Does anyone shoot skeet?

I was wondering if anyone here shoots skeet or anyother clay target shooting sports. I like skeet the best, but a close second is sporting clays. There is a great sporting clays coarse in Benton TN. It has been awhile that I have shot, the price of shot shells you know. I do reload though and it saves alot of money. I need someone to shoot with.

I have participated a few times back in Indiana and loved it. But I couldn't tell you if I did trap or skeet or whatever..

I have an eye out for a nice shotgun and will be checking out the local clubs..
My Mossy 590 isn't really ideal for clays..:D

Trap, the clay targets always go away from you from a single house in front of you, At different angles. Skeet, the targets go from two houses and go from left to right and right to left of you. Sporting clays you travel from various stations and the targets can come from anywhere and can go everywhere. Just a short description.

We used to go shoot trap out in the desert. My buddies had a launcher that would mount to a spare tire on the ground. It was a lot of fun but I haven't been in years.

My sister asked where I had been after a trip. It went like this:

Sis -Where were you today?
Me -Out skeet shooting.
Sis -What are skeet?
Me -They're a kind of pigeon.
Sis -YOU SHOT LITTLE BIRDIES?
Me -They're not like regular birds. I guess you could say that they're raised to be shot. They're not good for anything else. They can't even fly.
Sis -They can't fly? You just shoot them sitting on the ground?
Me -No, no. We have a special machine that throws them up in the air so we can shoot them (I swung my arm out wide to show the motion of the launcher).
Sis -No way. That's mean.
Me -Well, that's how it works. It's a lot more fun to shoot at them in the air.
Sis -If they can't fly, what happens if you miss?
Me -They fall on the ground & break into little pieces. They're kinda brittle.
Sis -THAT'S AWFUL. You guys are just awful.

At that point I lost it & started laughing. I went on to explain that they were clay pigeons, sort of frisbees made to shoot at. She still thought I was awful. :D

Thankyou for your explanation, I have always wondered what was the differance was.
I have competed in spot shoots (AKA turkey shoots) before but not any clay pigeon shoots.

I love sheet shooting! I joined a summer league a few years back and had a great time, especially winning the 2nd place trophy. Not bad considering it cost ~$200, and I gots me a ~$4.00 piece of plastic.

...but just think how the others who didn't get the plastic feel;)

The league was a great time. We all learned quite a bit, especially when we had tournaments combining trap, skeet, running rabbits, and birds flying into you. You either shot it, or it hit you. Adjustable chokes were a must!
