Good Place to Live
Hello All,
I am looking to find out where in NH would be a good place to live with kids that are in Junior High and High School. Any good ideas and comments would be greatly appreciated. I am also looking to be close to the Massachusetts border but, all suggestions will definitely be considered. Thanks for all the help. |
The Keene area is nice if you want a quant college town 20 miles from MA and 20 miles from VT. Great schools. Too far to cummute to Boston though
|
Thanks, I do know a little bit about Keene, I lived in Winchendon, Gardner and Leominster areas for a few years.
|
I lived in New Hampshire for 10 yrs now and work in Boston. To me It's worth the 50 min. commute each way. I don't see a whole lot of people moving out of New Hampshire.

from an education view I'm pretty sure Keene is right near the top as they have everything from K-12 through College and all their schools are consistently solid performers. Cost of living is pretty decent there too and there are some good companies to work for there as well.
If you're looking at private school the Phillips Exeter Academy is really good in Exeter, NH and you're still pretty close to college level education as well as Boston |
Thank you all for the replies. I will definitely be looking into all of the suggestions.

Laconia area is great!!! Many lakes to swim in and fish in the summer and to snowmobile or ice fish on in the winter and Gunstock ski area is just a few minutes away. And located in the center of the state.

i second the laconia area or gilford. the moultonborough is great also

Thank you all again for all the replies. Please keep them coming.

Well, Laconia is 19 out of 100, 100 being safest with regards to crime. Keene, 55. Overall, Laconia may have good schools and such, not going to look, but even where I am I can see the crime is higher in Laconia than Keene.
Google is a pretty handy tool, too. Good luck Bob |
Thanks agian for all the excellent replies and information. Here's another thing I need to look at. Also need to look at employment oppurtunities as well. But, my biggest concern is with the schools and living with kids.
Thanks again and keep it coming. Wayne |
Portsmouth
I'm a big fan of portsmouth NH. Coastal has everything and really has no comparison of any other city in NH.
|
Lebanon/Hanover New Hampshire. Not near MA, but a wonderful area in which to live.
|
Laconia looks like a good place to live but I would not suggest it. With children in junior high I think bringing them up in this city would be a mistake. There is a lot of crime in Laconia and a lot of drug problems, especially in the high school. Parts of Laconia may be pretty to visit, but living here is a different story.

We have excellent public schools in most any of the Seacoast towns. I live in Portsmouth and love it.
