You beat me to it. Used to be called "Rubs." Really good and the dude behind the counter is great.

Holden Neil Barbecue

Holden Neil Barbecue is a true hole in the wall off US1 a few miles north of HWY 98 in Youngsville . . . it is ridiculously good, and the food appears to be cooked by a bunch of grandmas!

The Pitt in Raleigh isn't exactly a "hole in the wall" but the food is awesome. They chef has been featured on Travel Channel and other shows.

I also like Woodys at City Market. Good selection of beer too.

The Rockford on Glenwood was a great place- haven't been there since they closed and re-opened. If you just want beer- Big Boss's Tap Room is a great hole in the wall.

I like Danny's for BBQ. For an adhoc meal with the family we like Armadillo Grill. We have simple tastes.

Chubby's Tacos is small, hidden in the corner at Lake Boone Shopping center. Nearly always packed. Best tex-mex tacos around.

If you want authentic Mexican tacos, at the most unlikely place you'd ever guess unless told, stop at the BP station on US1 North just before you get to Buffalo Rd. on the right. Walk into the store, past the groceries and the cashier, and head to the back. Be prepared to speak Spanish and know what you're ordering...

:-)

Knightdale Seafood and BBQ used to be great when it was a hole in the ground.

Then they got a big fancy new place, chefs quit, owners changed. 4 years ago they sucked but I havnt eaten there since. CVS or Walgreens now sits where their old house/restraunt used to be. Wow has knightdale changed in the past 11 years :/
