Bear island, its part of hammock beach state park, you can only get there by ferry out of swansboro there are only like 10-15 spots so everything is secluded.

Do you have to camp at the camp grounds, or can you camp anywhere on the shore?

Usually I head to Smith Mountain Lake and stay in the cabins or I head to Shenandoah National Forest (Blue Ridge Parkway) to Loft Mountain. Great views.
