Is open container okay?

Back when I lived in SATX in 1980s we had open container law... we had open beer cans in our cars...

How is the law now?

Completely against the law. In fact I think SA does no-refuse road side blood tests too.

Hmm, I haven't seen this, but then again, I wouldn't be surprised. Better than it was in Connecticut, where we'd hit 2-3 DUI checkpoints before we got home near a holiday.

Bexar county regularly has "no refuse" breathalizer tests if you get pulled over. Usually on holidays or big "drinking" days. I believe open containers are banned state wide.

Not entirely true

It's not entirely true, the second post. There are no-refusal weekends, but it's not a permanent thing. Also, while you cant just drive around with open containers, if you're cruising a river you're allowed to have open beers there. Just gotta be smart. But yeah, Texas being a freaking blue law state and all you're not gonna get much leniency in alcohol related matters/

I guess it used to be in the 60's/70's?

Had a Professor tell me they used to cruise Lamar for fun drinking beer because it was legal back then.

They got rid of OC back in the early 90's if memory serves correctly. Effective this past New Year's Weekend, every weekend is now "No Refusal" in BC.
