Riverwalk

I visited San Antonio years back with my family, and I now live within an hour from the city. Does the riverwalk still have the gondola river tours? I remember I loved going under the bridge and seeing the bats as a kid, just wondering if it's still in business!

Last time I was down there it was. I would check, with all the rain we're getting up here, I would say it's making it's way somewhere.

As others said, they still do boat rides..depending on your age you may find it more fun to just get a drink "to-go" and walk the river. There is a place just as you enter from the alamo plaza side that sells good margaritas to-go.

They aren't really 'gondolas' anymore, more like barges with seats. The operator has a PA and gives a running commentary of sights on the river. If you haven't been in a while, give it a go. The Paseo del Rio was recently extended northward as far as the Pearl Brewery, which is being converted into a showplace. The SARA had an art contest for the new section of the river which is viewable from the boats as you cruise along.
Also, there is a 9' change in elevation between the old and new sections, so they installed a lock, which is pretty cool if you have never been through one.
If you come in the summer (March - September), be sure to get some water to drink on the ride and wear a hat.
If you are making a special trip, I would also suggest that in addition to the river, you drop by the SA Zoo, just off of 281 at N St. Mary's. They have really cleaned it up and added a new section.

I didn't even know there was a zoo down there, I get so caught up in the glam of sea world. I'll have to check it out. Any cool exhibits going on right now?

There's always something going on. They usually have some kind of event for kids on the weekend.
Check it out at: San Antonio Zoo and Aquarium - Where you experience Real. Wild. Life.
