Anyone live in SM and commute to (north) Austin?

I am about to take a new position in my company and my commute will go from 5 miles to about 45 as I'll be driving to Mopac/Parmer. I was wondering if any of you make a similar commute and how the morning traffic is?

It's terrible. Not to bum you out but it is.

What time are you leaving?

My husband commutes to Georgetown and if he leaves before 6:30 it's not horrible. After that he takes the toll road and flies around.

That's why I ask. If you leave early enough it's not that bad. If you're going to fight the 9-5 crowd though I wish you the best!

I did the SM to Georgetown commute for a while. It got tedious real quick.

I'll be working 4 10 hour days, getting up there by 8. I've been told to leave by 6:15 in order to miss traffic but just wanted to see if there was any other input.

As long as you're there by 7:45 you should be alright.

I've noticed there's more than one wave of traffic. Same thing in the afternoon.

Just an update. I've been making the commute for a couple of weeks now and it really isn't too bad. I leave SM by 6:30 and the only traffic I run in to is from Slaughter to William Cannon. After that, I jump over to 71 then Mopac, and can usually fly right through. The only real downfall is I am spending around $25/day just to get to work and back.

Just an update for this quiet forum, I'm now going on 4+ months of a 100 mile round-trip commute from San Marcos to North Austin. Short story is, it sucks. It doesn't help that I get 15mpg in my Jeep if I'm lucky. The good news is they are going to start letting us take our work vans home, so that is fewer miles on the YJ, and a whole lot more money in my pocket. Cheers.
