damn skippy Rogelio's is the best damn place in town, I'll agree I used to eat at el charros but that place just went to **** after 2 yrs of being open. (I think they changed owners) Anyway I had the Mole, I love mole but its so rare to find an place that surves it in this town. I used to live in El Paso so I got spoiled on Mexican food but I would have to say that Rogelio's is right up there. Thank you for mentioning it, I never knew it was there and I've been here for 4 yrs now.

what is wrong wit u ppl?!
okay first and for most.. ya need to quit with the Herbert Tacos crap.. anywhere that serves u store bought tortillas is not a really mexican restuarant... when i moved here as a freshmen i went there and i saw the owner walk in with bags from heb.. inside it had tortillas... i was like what the hell?! so by far the good mexian restuarant has to be El Charro, Manas and of course Garcias. Taco Cabana is good.. (at least they make there own tortillas) no hay nada mejor que comida authentica.. no como el mugrero que te dan el herberts... and thats that.. ppl from up north think herberts is good cuz ya don't know any better...
Herberts makes their own tortillas.
They always have and I'm sure they always will.
I like Herberts. But I don't blame people for not likeing them.
Taco Cabana has a MACHINE that makes it's Tortillas. The excact same machine as HEB, and the major Tortilla factories. Theres no comparison.
BTW...I was born and raised in Michigan and Herberts was one of the first places I was taken when I came here. That's prob. why I still like it.
LOL

Herberts
Why is everyone praising Herberts? I've eaten there twice and both times it was truely awful.
Last time I got the Chicken Nachos and the Herbert Special. All the 7 dollar nachos were was REALLY TOUGH chicken so bad I ended up taking it off, chips and cheese. No vegtables. Nothing else. I could make better nachos at home and I suck at cooking.
Herberts special sucked. The tortilla for the chulpa was burnt, the taco beef was awful Taco Bell has tastier "beef". The enchilada was really generic and the chicken again was awful I didn't even eat much of it. Rice was good, beans were alright.
Salsa is really watered down. Overpriced as well I thought.
I don't have high standards AT ALL. I used to eat at Elva's in Corpus Christi all the time if anyone knows what a dive that place is.
Why is Herberts so good?

Mexican Food?
El Charro couldn't make a cheese enchilida if their lives depended on it, Herbert's is good but WAY to expensive for what you get.
Has no one ever heard of Garcia's Mexican Restaraunt? It's on South LBJ near the critter shop. I used to be a die hard Herbert's fan but the Thursday lunch special at Garcia's has turned me for good. 2 cheese enchiladas, rice, and beans for only $3.25, and in my opinion tastes much better than any restaurants' in town.

Herberts is highly overrated, ive never been a big fan. There is a new place or at least new to me on the north frontage road of I35 between HWY 80 and Aquarena Springs called Dos Flores. Awesome lunch specials, its on the right about halfway up, best local mexican food ive had here since I moved 3 years ago for school. You cant beat Manas either
