There's a ton going on with skateboarding in Texas and with San Marcos getting their very own park.

Check out www.sposm.org to learn more...

Ground has broke on phase one of the San Marcos park. Grindline is the builder. The crew Grindline sent in had to rent an apartment for the entire Spring semester. They would like to keep building after the street area is done. The pool in phase two should cost around $30,000 (I'm getting an official estimate). If SPOSMAC, the 501(c)(3) we formed to raise money and I didn't come up with the name, pays for the pool, we don't have to go through bidding and the GL crew can keep building. As I
said earlier SPOSMAC is a 501(c)(3) organization and any donation is tax deductible. If any one is interested in helping out email me and I will forward it to our treasurer. Any help is greatly appreciated. The pool will be similar to the Barrio Bowl from Austin 1990 and very backyardish. The deep will be 8 foot deep w/ 6 1/2 ft trannies, and the shallow 3 1/2 about tile width tranny. Left hand kidney. brete1@grandecom.net

Some people have asked about SPOSM.org. SPOSM.org was plaugued by porno and drug spam. The plug was pulled temporarily to avoid the embarassment of people going to our site which was littered with links to all sort of stff we didn?t want kids, parents, potential donors, and council members thinking we condone. SPOSMAC is having a meeting next week, I?ll post the time and place here.

This Thursday Janaury 25th, the Skate Park Steering Committee will be meeting at 5:30pm at the Parks Deptartment (on the corner of CM Allen and Hopkins- diagonal from Mr. Gatti's). This will also be a Skate Park of San Marcos Action Committee meeting.

The Steering Committee will be getting an update on the progress of phase 1 of the skate park. We will also be finalizing the groundbreaking ceremony for the skate park on February 3rd at 10am.

SPOSM will continue afterward to discuss fundraising for phase 2 (2 flow areas).

Alright, we are actually begging for money.

If the figures Davcar engineering gave us is right the pool should cost about $21,000. We are about to approach a few foundations for money. It would look better if we had a little more money in the bank when we do. Any amount will help. If you need additional motivation imagine A-2 sitting, forlornly looking at the ledge and step phase one thinking "I busted ass for three years for this?" Now imagine the grin on his face as he busts a long ass double grind in a fine backyardish left hand kidney.

Seriously. raising money is like borrowing money. People are more likely to give to people who already have some money. Your tax deductible donation can be sent to

SPOMAC can also accept in kind donations on concrete, rebar and other building supplies. If you have a concrete connection that is the largest cost.

Construction is going well. The bad dirt has been removed. The flat fill work is almost done. Forming of the banks should start next week, with form work shortly there after. Probably 6-8 weeks if the weather holds.
