Springtown Center?

So, everyone is moving out to a new development that we will all have to drive farther to get to, traffic will be worse, there will be fewer options for alternative transport, and we all get to pay extra for the privilege...

Anyways, can someone tell me what the plan for Springtown is? It's a net loss if nothing goes in there, but is there a plan to get other businesses there? How do we court Trader Joe's? Sun Harvest probably isn't the right business to put in across the street from a HEB, but that might work. Does HEB move into the Target space? Academy? There has to be a plan for the space. Without it, the space becomes urban blight.

Those of us who haver lived here for more than 20 years remember that Springtown sat un-occupied for nearly a decade, until Target moved in. Ironically, the city gave Target incentives to move there in the first place. Good idea by the way. Now we will surely have to cough up big bucks to fill this newly empty hole in the eastern heart of our city. This is why the mayor screwed up royally by pushing the additional $4 million bailout for Stonecreek ($6 mil total). She could have used some of that to help redevelop Springtown.

The only thing I have heard is that it will be a commuter lot for the university. I have not had a chance to try to confirm this. I believe I heard that one of the existing commuter lots by the stadium is going to be turned into more athletic fields.

For what it's worth, the campus master plan doesn't show that... It shows a number of parking garages going in in some of the current lots. I speculate it's to make up for the loss of parking that the new stadium and IM(?) field going in across from Spring Lake.

It would make more sense to encourage HEB to move to Springtown and sell the current HEB location to the university for a lot, since they already have a lot behind HEB.

If only I were Benevolent Dictator...

I don't think HEB will be moving - they're about to start building a car wash. Which I think is absurd.
The ones I saw in Waco this weekend looked... well, odd.

Why and how can you balme this on the mayor? You are sadly mistaken if a car wash at HEB is the mayors fault. Its a freakin drive through carwash that they are installing at alot of the HEBs. I guess your hangnail is also the mayors fault!

Referring to the Mayor giving tax incentives to the Development South where all big dogs at Springtown are moving to.

on the agenda again

I just read that they are going to propose springtown incentives again on Tuesday the 21st. I don't get it. why would the mayor give incentives to attract more min wage jobs? we don't need to subsidize these investments - they either want to locate here or not. if it was for real jobs I might be for it but why would you throw taxpayer dollars to get more bars a movie theater or bowling?? why dont you throw some money at the downtown theater and fix downtown parking - it has been on the "plan" for how long now.......BS
