My husband and I and our 2 little kids moved from Seattle 5 years ago. While the transition was hard in a lot of respects (leaving family, leaving friends, leaving the familiar) Spokane is a really great city for SO many reasons. I'm going to list them for you in random order, list format....here goes:
Manito Park (90-acre public park just South of downtown); Downtown; Riverfront Park; Downtown Mall (Nordstrom, North Face, Pottery Barn, Aveda, Boehms, Aunties Books, Gap...everything a large city has but with local flair too); Spokane Indians Baseball is amazingly cheap, great minor league farm for Texas MLB; Spokane Shock AFL; Spokane Chiefs Hockey rocks!; CDA resort and lake with swimming, golf, restaurants; downtown CDA; Garland historic theater (cheap movies); Monroe St antique and second hand shops - awesomeness; Riverside State Park - Bowl and Pitcher; hiking at Dishman Mica hills; Steptoe Butte; Palouse; Priest Lake; Priest River; Lake Pend Oreille; Farragut State Park; historic Browns Addition; Manito Tap House Gastropub yummy!; The Hop Shop brews and wine neighborhood bar; Flying Goat pizza and brewery; No Li brewery; Northern Lights Distillery; REI; rock climbing; camping; kayaking; skiing; snowboarding; snowshoeing; cross country skiing; sailing; swimming pools; water slides; Silverwood amusement park and Boulder Beach water park; Sandpoint ID; Schweitzer Mtn; Mount Spokane; Fish Trap Park; Armed Forces Torchlight parade; Spokane arena and convention center with broadway shows and big name performers; casino-resorts if you're into that sort of thing; First night!; I could literally go on and on and on...
Perfect place to raise kids.
Very safe place to live...no hurricanes, no floods, no earthquakes, no tornadoes, no tsunamis, no volcanoes; the only real threat is fires!
Hope this helps!
