Can you see out from atop the arch? that would be awesome. If you can, anyone have any pictures?

The museum below the arch is pretty cool. I went up in the arch once, but it was about 15 years ago. Have they replaced those old egg shaped elevator cars yet? Those things were/are weird.

I've lived in St. Louis all my life...56 years worth...and I've been up in the Arch exactly one time. It's an amazing view. Would be especially fun on a day like today. 40mph winds. On a day like this, the top of the Arch sways as much as 3 feet from side to side.

These are from late spring 2008:

The Cards were playing that day.

Market Street, downtown STL.

These are the steps on the riverfront side of the arch.

The river floods like this nearly every year.

Great shots! I don't get up there nearly enough.

I recently got to take my kids up in the Arch for the first time. It had been a while for me as well. It was a great time and they LOVED it!

Aren't they having problems with the metal exterior? Something to do with corrosion?

Here is the article about 'Rust and Decay'.

Stainless Steel isn't rust proof. I would say for being 55 years old, it is holding up pretty well. The issue with the arch is there is no way to clean/repair the outside of the super structure. Also, since the outside is actually what holds it together repairing or replacing pieces is near impossible.

Surface scaling and patina is a natural process, look at the statue of liberty, it isn't painted green, that is natural weathering.

I will love the arch no mater what color it is.

There is no excuse for the rust on the inside though.

My mom and dad remember when they were allowed to walk the stairs up to the top of the arch! I can't imagine how long that would take!?!
