The stars at night, are big and bright,
deep in the heart of Texas,
The prairie sky is wide and high,
deep in the heart of Texas.
The sage in bloom is like perfume,
deep in the heart of Texas,
Reminds me of, the one I love,
deep in the heart of Texas.

The coyotes wail, along the trail,
deep in the heart of Texas,
The rabbits rush, around the brush,
deep in the heart of Texas.
The cowboys cry, "Ki-yip-pee-yi,"
deep in the heart of Texas,
The dogies bawl, and bawl and bawl,
deep in the heart of Texas.

I remember as a young girl in elementary school, learning all the songs and poems about this Great State we live in....but it has come to my attention recently; that majority of the school kids today don't even know the words to the Star Spangled Banner, or (pick a song) about Texas... Have we just lost our pride/patriotic-ness (for lack of a better word).

Is the current curriculum not teaching it?

We were never taught that song in grade school. However, in multiple grades we had Texas History class which I believe is pretty unique to our State? I don't think they have a class dedicated to Iowa History in Iowa.
