Martinez Cabin Trip - Jan 29 - meetup at 8a

your map, and the satellite maps of the area all indicate there is still plenty of the trip still open.

my thoughts are the same basic plan:

1) meetup in catalina and travel to florence as a group
2) head off down price road for box canyon
3) have a lunch somewhere post box canyon (likely windy gap for the amazing views in both directions)
4) head on back to price road via sandman road
4b) if sandman is no good, back track down box canyon to price
5) price to 77 to head for home

my only concern for calling this an easy run, i've never been on sandman road. it connects off of box canyon road past the martinez turnout and runs north of box canyon back to price road. from satellite and topo100k maps it looks like a trail as smooth as box canyon.

any others with experience with sandman to know if we can use that route to head back.

yeppers after looking at the map I think I'll be frequenting this area, LOTS of trails to explore, see you in catalina on the 29th at 8 or before....

Lots and lots of trails up there. Some way harder than others though. Still wanna do upper and lower ajax. Elvis again, and attempt highway to hell.

went out today to scope out sandman.

so, the plan:

on jan 29,
meetup at 8a at the minit market (intersection: oracle/golder ranch)

head out as a group to florence
top off fuel as necessary

route i plan is:

price road to box canyon
through box canyon to sandman and drive the northern loop
come back out via box canyon to price road

there's a nice lil cave near the middle point of the trail, a great place to set up for lunch and let the kids play for those bringing them along.

This looks like fun, I am definitely going to try to go.

I have a friend that may want to go, he's got a stock grand on bfg at's, do you guys think the trail is easy enough for him to make it?

@greg(young) - a stock grand should be just fine. the run is overall easier then chimney rock trail, just a lot more remote and scenic.

head out as a group to florence (77 > 79 > florence)
top off fuel as necessary in florence just before price road (dirt road begins)

route i plan is:

price road to box canyon
through box canyon to sandman and drive the northern loop
come back out via box canyon to price road
