One of the workers at Reid Park Zoo has killed a Giraffe and another is seriously
ill after the worker fed them toxic food.

Poor giraffes.

I googled oleander and it has many different looks. It might be a good idea to replace any near the zoo with something safe.

Many use it in landscaping because of its fast growth, pretty and being durable, but I agree, it has no place in or near a zoo.

I prefer toxic plants at a great distance. Animals eat very odd things given a chance and suffering animals are nothing I like seeing.

My KY buddy is smart. His love of animals is very strong but he needed to get his feral cat fixed. He made a cave out of thermal clothing on the porch and when the feral was asleep he sealed the door. Had a lady pick up the cat and take it to a vet and later return it home. The cat hates the lady but loves my friend. I'm not nearly that wise.

Edited to add:

This topic and life just kicked me in the gut tonight. I sensed it might come long before this. Low income housing attracts some very odd and often mean spirited tenants. The nutshell version is I adopted an abandoned feral and fed him. That began before I moved from across the street to where this cat lived. He (Dex) has a harem I was unaware of till kittens showed up last year. Just two hung around and one of those moved on. It appeared "manageable". Then this Spring the harem was three mommy cats having kittens. The kittens live in heavy surrounding shrubbery and come out only after dark.
I was offered an unmanageable bribe but instead cut a deal for a real world solution for two of the cats. The rest I'll shoo with squirt guns and water balloons. (Might sneak some food to a couple runts) Essentially I'll comply because I have no choice and it allows me to care for the two I'm closest to. The look in the eyes of the rest id understandable betrayal.

Maybe its a Tucson thing, I have known about oleanders all my life, can't believe someone at the Zoo didn't know enough to not feed it to them

It's new to me since this Spring. I can usually be correct suspecting vacation syndrome this time of year. Someone on the yard crew or zoo staff was out and a substitute knew no better.
