My KY buddy is smart. His love of animals is very strong but he needed to get his feral cat fixed. He made a cave out of thermal clothing on the porch and when the feral was asleep he sealed the door. Had a lady pick up the cat and take it to a vet and later return it home. The cat hates the lady but loves my friend. I'm not nearly that wise.

This topic and life just kicked me in the gut tonight. I sensed it might come long before this. Low income housing attracts some very odd and often mean spirited tenants. The nutshell version is I adopted an abandoned feral and fed him. That began before I moved from across the street to where this cat lived. He (Dex) has a harem I was unaware of till kittens showed up last year. Just two hung around and one of those moved on. It appeared "manageable". Then this Spring the harem was three mommy cats having kittens. The kittens live in heavy surrounding shrubbery and come out only after dark.
I was offered an unmanageable bribe but instead cut a deal for a real world solution for two of the cats. The rest I'll shoo with squirt guns and water balloons. (Might sneak some food to a couple runts) Essentially I'll comply because I have no choice and it allows me to care for the two I'm closest to. The look in the eyes of the rest id understandable betrayal.
