I haven't been here long enough to talk about the best pubs but I do know of a new micro-brew start-up.

Beach Brewing Co.

They're a new company tryign to make a go of it. Go visit if you live in the area. It's a nice place with GREAT beer.

A new joint Fireworks pizza has an excellent beer menu my buddy is hte bar manager there. Fire Works Wood Fired Pizza Restaurant in Arlington Virginia

+1 to Dogfish Head Alehouse, especially the one in Fairfax. The previous restaurant had a dance floor in the center, which is now the bar. The location is great since its on the lowest platform of the room. So no matter how cramped it gets at the bar, anyone sitting there gets a nice feeling of spaciousness from above.

Hops restaurant located in front of Potomac Yards Shopping Ctr , Arlington is a good microbrewery, pub restaurant . They have OK food and good beer.

Anyhow, awesome beer, suprisingly great food, and friendly, genuine atmosphere. Went there for the first time last weekend and had a great time.

Legends in Richmond is a "must" go pub. Great food and awesome Porter!
