History says that gold was discovered way back in 1879 at the Crystal Gold Mine. It was Tom Irwin who mined it for a total of 3 years. When he left, he decided to make a big blast just to hide the entire mine. It was now the present owner who is also a retired miner who discovered it once again and decided to open it to numerous tourists all around the country and the globe.
There are Smithsonite crystals that you can find all over its wall along with marked gold and silver veins. On every guided tour inside it, you are advised not to climb and there are hand steels that you can safely grasp as you go through the interesting tour. It has concrete walkways that are already well lit.
