The Carver-Hawkeye Arena is home to the Hawkeyes in Iowa. The Arena, amounting to $18,402,962 in its construction was completed in three years using financial contributions from athletic department supporters in the state. The Arena staged its first event on Jan. 3, 1985. It was a 1983 wrestling dual against Oklahoma. A couple of days later, it hosted its first basketball game featuring the UI men's basketball team competing against Michigan State. It is said that it has been a very suitable home to the Hawkeyes since Iowa has won more than half of its games held in Carver. During the 2010-11 season, it entered with a 340-103 record with the arena becoming a big part of it. The same thing can be said about the women?s basketball and wrestling as well.
The Carver-Hawkeye Arena is also known for hosting big scale sporting events such as the Big Ten and NCAA wrestling championships and Big Ten and NCAA regional and national gymnastics championships. It was also the venue for the U.S. Olympic wrestling trials and U.S. Olympic basketball team in 1984.
Today, the Arena is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation which includes the addition of a practice facility, space for game days and night, meeting spaces with club facilities, and many more.
