The largest working windmill in the US can be found in Pella, Iowa. Popularly called the Vermeer Mill, it grinds what to make them flour using wind power. It is the tallest functioning windmill in the US today, measuring up to 134 feet in height.

The Vermeer Mill is built in the mid to late 1800s. As the town is originally a settlement for Dutch immigrants, the windmill is just one of the many Dutch-architecture inspired buildings in Pella.

Tours around the Pella historic district is now available, and the Vermeer Mill is included in the sites that will be visited by these trips, along with the other structures that replicate a traditional village in Holland. People can also come and visit the windmill during the town?s Tulip Festival in May.
