Harold Freund, a retired President of the Freund Baking Company of Glendale in California and a former member of the AIB Board of directors stimulated the growth and development of the American Museum of Baking and served as an example for other industry personnel, through his generous support by giving AIB the world?s largest collection of bakery figurines and funds to build a museum for the collection and conservation of the biography of baking in the country.

The museum house several priceless items like Egyptian bread and cake more than 3,800 years old, Roman bread and grains from the colonies in North America. It also holds a priceless collection of books about baking which are aged more than two hundred years old. The museum also has the original Louis Livingston library as part of its collection.

After passing away in 1996, the museum collection was renamed as the Harold M. Freund American Museum of Baking in 1998. Since then the museum?s purpose and mission is to illustrate and preserve the history of the baking industry, and to accomplish this mission the Harold M. Freund American Museum of Baking continues to collect, exhibit and research artifact which are connected, refer or depict bakers and the baking industry.
