The International Museum of the Horse is a museum located in Kentucky which opened in 1978 together with the Kentucky Horse Park. The museum initially started with an area of 22,000 square feet but has since expanded to its current size of 45,000 square feet.

The International Museum of the Horse or IMH features a collection of the worlds finest and the best exhibits pertaining to horses. It is also the world?s largest museum that focuses on the unique and historical relationship between humans and horses. According to the museum founders, the mission of the International Museum of the Horse is to help educate the public about this relationship together with the changes that has come after the domestication of the first horse.

The IMH?s permanent exhibits follow certain themes and timelines and features unique titles such as ?All the Queen?s Horses: The Role of the Horse in British History? together with ?Imperial China: The Art of the Horse in Chinese History? and ?A Gift from the Desert: the Art, Culture and History of the Arabian Horse.?

Champion horses are also featured in the IMH including the exhibit for the champion Affirmed who was the last horse to win the ever-elusive Triple Crown. Guests can find photos and memorabilias focusing on the horse including soundbytes through audio interviews with the team who has worked closely with Affirmed during its amazing bid for championship glory.

The museum also boasts of a large collection of equine artworks done by local and international artists and sculptures. The artworks on display also aim to promote equine artistry as well as boost the popularity of talented equine artists.

The admission prices for the International Museum of the Horse changes depending on the seasons as well as the opening and closing time. Summer visitors should note that the museum opens from 9 am to 5 pm and is open from Monday to Sunday. Prices for summer would be $16 for adults and $8 for children with children below 6 years old getting in for free. Guests who visit the IMH during winter should expect admission prices of $10 for adults and $5 for children.
