The State Fair of Louisiana is an annual, 14-day state fair event located in Shreveport, Louisiana. The State was founded in 1906 by a group of Shreveport?s leading and upstanding citizens. The group founded the State Fair to help in assisting the development of different industries in Louisiana including the agriculture industry.
The fair is a non-profit and private organization with people from different backgrounds holding office as the official board of directors. The full operation for the fair however is given to the President and the General Manager who works hand in hand with hundreds of volunteers. The fair sits in a 157 acre land near Interstate 20 while the actual fairgrounds can be found three miles west of Shreveport.
Different exhibits line the fairgrounds each year together with great facilities that help attract more people every year. The State Fair of Louisiana also holds the Hirsch Memorial Coliseum which is a 10,300 seater arena which plays hosts to several ?off-season? events including musical concerts, hockey games and other sporting events. Visitors of the State Fair of Louisiana can also check out motor show rallies, rodeos and even livestock shows inside the Hirsch Memorial Coliseum.
The Fair also features carnival rides for children complete with different games and attractions for the whole family. There are also different livestock shows for people interested in breeding and selling cows, chickens and other livestock. The State Fair also follows the tradition of holding different cooking contests and even competitive exhibits related to agriculture and animal husbandry.
On normal days, the State Fair of Louisiana opens at 10:00 am and closes at either 10:00 pm or 11:00pm. The regular admission rate for guests is $8 per head but people can also avail of the $28 pay-one-price armband which includes gate admission plus rides. Guests coming in with their cars should also pay an additional $5 for parking.
