The Southwick?s Zoo has an interesting history, having started as a working dairy farm that also included vegetable gardens and peach orchards in 1803. In the 1930?s, Justin A. Southwick had expanded his property to include a growing collection of fancy poultry, which was later further expanded when his son began a collection of birds. In time, Justin F. Southwick had become one of the word?s experts on migratory waterfowl.

In time, having sold the farm and after receiving donations from locals and other generous souls, Justin A. Southwick had been able to open the Southwick Wild Animal Farm in 1963.

Today, the Southwick?s zoo is under management of another family, the Brewers, and now cares for over half a thousand animals that belong to more than a hundred domestic, exotic, and endangered species.
