Located in Traverse City, Michigan is the American Legion Memorial Bridge. It was constructed in 1930 and has been a part of the National Register of Historic Places since the year 2000.
The American Legion Memorial Bridge was one of the new bridges planned by the city commission that will cross the Boardman River. This particular structure is in Cass Street. It was made special by its connection to the famous Indianapolis bridge builder, Daniel Luten, who was best known for his concrete-arch bridge designs.
Following Luten?s design, the American Legion Memorial Bridge?s construction was awarded to Jerome Wilhelm and Aldrich and Cook. They followed most of Luten?s details, except for substituting the original handrails with jersey barricades, making the structure slightly different from what was initially planned.
