The Dekker Huis/Zeeland Historical Museum tells the story of its community, the fascinating stories of its people, and the artifacts that help visitors to be enlightened and knowledgeable about the history and culture of the area. It tackles the different periods starting from the arrival of the Dutch settlers until the time the community began to be known for its designer clocks and furniture.
The Museum features special exhibits that depict Zeeland?s culture, economic development, and many others. It also informs the people of Zeeland?s first settlers led by Jannes VandeLuyster who led 425 followers aboard three ships. The exhibit shows their trail upon arriving in New York, along the Hudson, the Erie Canal, the Lake Huron, and around the tip of Michigan before finally landing at Van Raalte?s settlement in Holland.
Through these stories and artifacts that also have stories behind them, the Museum serves as a place where everyone get to experience the life during Zeeland?s past.
The Museum also hosts special events and it offers programs that complement the learning process from their collections.
