Michigan is the birthplace of most automobile companies in the United States. This is why it is not surprising to find remnants of buildings that are related to such historical events. The Durant-Dort Carriage Company Office used to be William Durant?s headquarters during the beginning of Chevrolet, founding of General Motors, and funding of the Buick Motor Company.
The Durant-Dort Carriage Company Office in Flint, Michigan is also the only place in the planet that is closely related to William C. Durant. Aside from Durant, other pioneers in the automobile industry have also stepped foot in this very building like Josiah Dallas Dort, Charles Warren Nash, Alexander Brownell Cullen Hardy, and David Dunbar Buick.
The Durant-Dort Carriage Company is now operated by the Genesee County Historical Society as a museum.
