Located in a navigationally hazardous place in Michigan, the Tawas Point Light was constructed in 1875 and first lit in 1877. It was built in replacement of the first lighthouse in the area which faced too many issues to function properly.
The Tawas Point Light is built with a tower of 70 feet. It offers visitors the rare opportunity to stay at the lighthouse for one or two weeks, for a specific fee, and under an agreement that they will serve as a trained volunteer keeper.
Currently being remodeled by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the Tawas Point Light will be opened as a museum for the lighthouse?s history and a mini-cabin that will be available for rent to the public.
