The Crawford County Historical Museum is a large 1934 2-story structure that simply started with only 1 cabinet and 3 items. Today, the Museum now occupies 3 floors as it features objects, artifacts, and information that are related to the history of the county, city, and the area.
The Museum, which is also home to the Crawford County Historical Society, enables the visitors to take a step back in time in order to relive the richness of the history. Its collections are categorized according to theme in interesting arrangements. Among the Museum?s exhibits are the school room, the Native Ameircan area, military room, Bible displays, scool photos, yearbooks, school records, a kitchen, quilts, wedding dresses, artifacts from the railroad depot, a uniform worn by a conductor, and many more.
It started when Elsie Norton thought of having a Historical Society for the Crawford County. Together with friends, Marie Martin and Nettie Snider, Elsie was able to draw numerous people who showed any interest in joining. It recognizes the need of younger visitors for building on the museum?s strengths.
