The Locust Creek Covered Bridge State Historic Site traces its roots back to 1868, when the Locust Creek Covered Bridge was built. The structure was once a part of the nation?s first transcontinental road, the Route 8. Today, it is one of the most important historic sites in the state and is the longest of the only four remaining bridges in the entire state of Missouri, measuring 151 feet. The road and the bridge served as a vital link in the east ? west traffic in the northern Missouri region.
