The Missouri Mines State Historic Site is a state park and historic site in Park Hills, Missouri. It is best noted for its great contributions during the days when the state of Missouri still produced up to about 80 percent of the country?s mined lead.
The Missouri Mines State Historic Site primarily features the Federal Mill No. 3. It was built in 1906 by the Federal Lead Co. and was later acquired by its competitor, St. Joseph Lead Company. It was closed down in 1972, after having most of the area?s ore deposits have been mined out. By 1975, the property was donated to the state of Missouri, in order to preserve the site and give it a new purpose.
