Founded in 1851, Mount Mora Cemetery is the oldest running cemetery in St. Joseph, Missouri. Back in the 19th century, it was the most fashionable burial place for locals, as proven by the grand mausoleum row located near the main entrance of the cemetery.
Mount Mora Cemetery belongs to the National Register of Historic Places, mostly due to its history and famous ?residents?. The creation of the Mausoleum Row is believed to be a proof of St. Joseph?s golden age, allowing the grieving families to construct lavish resting places for their loved ones.
Mount Mora Cemetery is the resting place for three state governors, two Pony Express riders, a number of Civil War soldiers, a Robidoux son, and the Kemper family.
