The land where the Powell Gardens now stand was bought in 1948 by George Powell Sr. and originally used as a dairy farm. Later, it was converted into a camp for Boy Scouts as well as a resource center for agriculture and nature before it was finally turned into a garden in 1988. The 915 acre property features picturesque meadows and verdant hills as well as a nature trail amidst spectacular gardens. The garden?s architectural and landscaping designs were originally handled by Fay Jones but are now managed by the Maurice Jennings Architects. Besides being available for public viewing, the Powell Gardens are also available for venue rentals for special occasions. It also regularly hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year.
