The MGM Grand, built in 1973, has always been newsworthy as it provides a venue for record-breaking events. Considered as Las Vegas? first super resort, it provided a benchmark on how big and luxurious a 5-star Las Vegas hotel should be. It is a legend for it created a lot of firsts. Not only is it the largest hotel constructed in Las Vegas, it is also the first resort and mega-casino along the Strip. Though its theme park closed in 2009, it is the only hotel that had one.
