The Northeastern Nevada Museum is a 40,000 square-foot facility located in the Elko City Park, Nevada. Whether you?re an art aficionado, a fan of flora and fauna, or you just heart history, the Northeastern Nevada Museum is the place for you with its various exhibits covering local history, natural history, local cultures, wildlife from around the world displayed in natural settings, a permanent art collection, and rotating art exhibits. Constructed in 1967, the museum building was extensively remodeled and expanded in 1982. The Wanamaker Wildlife Wing was completed in 1999. The museum is accredited by the American Association of Museums and has been honored with several prestigious awards, including two national awards of merit. Past exhibits include the museum?s original collection of Will James western art, a tribute to Will James by local artist Larry Bute, and an exhibit from the Nevada Arts Council called Great Basin Exteriors, featuring the work of Adam Jahiel, Nolan Preece, and Daniel Cheek.
The museum?s Archives Department include over 40,000 photos, area newspapers from 1869 to present, public records, manuscripts, oral histories, and maps. The museum also houses a research library filled with books on many topics and from many genres, for research or leisure reading purposes. An extensive collection of objects can also be found in the museum including various items from Elko High School, the Old Elko General Hospital, various Indian baskets, saddles, kitchen items, decanters, old typewriters, juke boxes, phonographs, rocks and minerals, clothing and hats. The museum also includes a gift shop and 90-seat theater.
Visit the museum?s gift shop and browse through an array of books, original artwork, prints, pottery, jewelry, Native American crafts, a children?s corner, unique gift items and much more. Many of the items in the gift shop are made by local craftsmen and artists.
