Also known by locals as the Gorge Bridge, the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge is the fifth highest bridge in the US measuring 650 feet above the Rio Grande. Made in a cantilever truss bridge design, it crosses the gorge with a total span of 1280 feet.
A part of the US Route 64, the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge has once been recognized as the ?Most Beautiful Steel Bridge? by the American Institute of Steel Construction in 1966. It has also been used as a setting for scenes in movies like Twins, Natural Born Killers, Wild Hogs, and Terminator Salvation.
The biggest problem of the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge is that it is commonly used for suicides. Measures to counter this is being implemented by the state, though.
