The Benjamin Patterson Inn Museum serves as the medium by which the Coring Painted Post Historical Society is able to work on the collection of local historical data, diffusion of the knowledge of local history, and the promotion of the centenary of the incorporation of Corning as a village.
The 1796 structure that was known as the Painted Post Tavern was acquired and restored by the Corning Painted Post Historical Society in 1976. Today, it is the site of the Benjamin Patterson Inn Museum. Other buildings have also moved to the site for restoration purposes.
The Museum today has established itself in the museum community as it offers living history programs, local historical information, and artifacts that are viewed and visited by more than 4,000 school children.
