If there is one place in the United States where one can wonder at 7000 metric tons of gold bars, the gold vault inside the Federal Reserve Bank of New York is the place. Also declared as a New York City Landmark and included in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2010, the New York Fed so they say is the biggest gold storehouse in the world.
The bank building on 33 Liberty Street dates back to 1924 and boasts of Neo-Renaissance architecture designed by York and Sawyer Architecture Firm after winning the building design competition. Being one of the firsts in the Federal Reserve Bank system, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York served as a prototype for the other banks of its kind that was built in other parts of the United States.
