The Aurora Fossil Museum is dedicated to the education of the public about North Carolina?s geology and paleontology. Aside from its rotating and permanent displays, it also has 2 areas that are filled with rich fossil soils that can be accessed by visitors for collecting fossils.
Its permanent collection of fossils is uncovered in the phosphate mining process in Beaufort County. A lot about its geological history are actually revealed by the teeth of sharks as well as other fossils. Its archaeology displays also show America?s prehistory through the murals and world class artifact collection. North Carolina?s geology during the Miocene and Pliocene Ages are also depicted in murals.
Another interesting attraction is the Museum?s display of gems and minerals and the earthly timeline shown in the permanent fossil displays.
