Fort Anderson is a historic site in Winnabow, North Carolina. It tells of the historic town of Brunswick, which is also the same site where the Civil War Fort Anderson is located.
Back in the 1700s, the town of Brunswick was a major port in the Cape Fear River. During the American Revolutionary War, it was razed down by the British troops. It was never rebuilt again as a port town, but by the Civil War period, it was reused for Fort Anderson. It was built by the Confederates to as an additional defense along the Cape Fear River.
Today, the site is operated by the state of North Carolina as the Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site. There are tons of displays and activities that tell of the area?s colorful past on the site.
