The Frisco Native American Museum & Natural History Center is housed in a building with 100 years of history and contains a nationally recognized collection of Native American artifacts, exhibits, and natural history displays. The museum is located on Hatteras Island on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and features galleries of native art as well as information on Native Americans across the United States and artifacts from the first inhabitants of Hatteras Island. Among the museum?s highlight is a dug-out canoe discovered on museum property as well as items recovered from the site of East Carolina University's archaeological dig at Buxton Village.

Aside from traditional exhibits and tours, the museum offers a myriad of activities including Native American workshops, Scout badge work, school science projects, Native American studies, programs for the visually impaired, senior citizen seminars, and special events. The museum?s nature trails were acquired in 1989 and winds through several acres of beautiful maritime forest. Visitors will find plenty of labeled specimens and exhibits throughout the trails, as well as open spaces with benches for resting and roped walkways in wooded areas.

From the sounds of native drums and singing, to the smell of fry bread and the tangy taste of buffalo chili, to the images of intricate crafts and the delights of molding clay, shaping stone, stringing beads, carving wood, or weaving baskets, visitors will have the opportunity to explore and experience Native American culture up close and personal. The museum's gift shop features works by over 30 Native American artists and includes unusual and special items such as hand-painted ceramics, authentic beadwork, unique pottery, native American jewelry, hand-made knives and carvings.
