The Island Farm is a living history museum in Manteo, North Carolina. It celebrates and tells of the daily life on Roanoke Island during the mid 19th century.
Set in 1847, the Island Farm is a great stop if you want some fun history. It features a series of historic structures with the historic Etheridge Homeplace as a centerpiece. The site actually dates back to 1757, when it was acquired and first farmed by the Etheridge family. The current house is built by Adam Etheridge around the mid 1800s.
Aside from the historic farmhouse, there are also other structures on the site like the cookhouse, dairy, smokehouse, slave cabin, barns, corn crib, and outhouse. The site is also filled with costumed interpreters who will demonstrate the daily life of the area?s residents back in the 1850s.
