The Roger Museum was opened in 1984. As New York Yankee Roger Maris would have wanted, it was housed in a very accessible location. Having initially declined the idea of a museum in his honor, Roger eventually agreed saying that it must be in a place that is easily seen by people. Nobody should have to pay for it as well. It was housed in the West Acres Shopping Center, where it can be seen by just about anyone who visits the mall. It is enclosed with glass that allows visitors to view it as long as the mall is open.
In 2003, the Museum was rebuilt and on its re-dedication, Pat Maris and the other members of the Maris family were the special guests, together with Museum developer Jim McLaughlin.
