Also known as the Thomas Creek Covered Bridge is the Gilkey Bridge. It was built in 1939, right beside an old roofed railroad span that existed until 1960. The railroad was essential then, especially when it was built in 1880, as the Gilkey community used to function as an important shipping point for farm products.
The Gilkey Bridge is best known for being a landmark for the spot where people favor swimming at the Thomas Creek. In fact, there?s a swimming rope tied to the very framework of the said structure where youngsters swing with. However, when the local kids started to grow tired of the rope, they decided to just climb the roof of the bridge and jump from there to seek more thrill.
Despite such amount of activities on the Gilkey Bridge, it is still open to traffic today.
