The Peter Iredale was once a four-masted barque sailing vessel made of steel before it ran ashore on 1906. It was owned by Peter Iredale, a huge businessman from Liverpool, Ireland ho owned P. Iredale & Porter. The shop was built in 1890, measuring 2075 tons and 87 meters in length. It was the largest vessel built by R. Ritson & Co Ltd. Today, it still remains on the Clatsop Spit as the Peter Iredale Shipwreck.
The Peter Iredale shipwreck was never removed from the area, mostly since the weather never favored the plans to tow the ship ack to the sea, until it already got embedded on the sand. Visitors can actually wade to the remnants of the vessel, especially when the tide is low.
