Marked as the nation?s largest veteran?s organization, the American Legion War Museum supports the present active duty military personnel together with its commitment to all veterans and their families. The War Museum?s exhibit holds the history of military bases in Greenville and South Carolina. You will see a wide collection of pictures of leaders and local people that were involved with the military conflicts of American history.
Exhibits include authentic war artifacts from the different eras such as the American Civil War, the Spanish and American War, World War 1, World War 2, the wars in Korea, Vietnam and the Persian Gulf. A special exhibit of the museum honors Major Rudolf Anderson of Greenville who was shot down in October of 1962 while flying his U-2 plane over Cuba in the Cuban Missile Crisis.
The American Legion War Museum welcomes and encourages everyone to take a guided tour in the War Museum and these guided tours are preferable to school groups from elementary, middle school, high school and college level classes. Admission to the museum is free and they are open Saturdays from 10am to 5pm and Sundays from 1pm to 5pm.
