The Baynard Ruins are some ruins of the Braddock Point Plantation. The site has a very interesting story behind it, making it quite a well known tourist destination in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

The site, originally known as the Braddock Point Plantation was originally named after Captain David Cutler Braddock. The house, however, was built by James Stoney around the late 1700s to early 1800s.

When ?Saucy Jack? Stoney inherited the house sometime in the 1800s, the story got more exciting. Apparently, the site got its name from the Stoneys and the Baynards, specifically after William Eddings Baynard who acquired the property after Stoney lost in a poker game in 1838. From then, it was known as the Stoney-Baynard Plantation.

Sadly, the main house burned down in 1867. The Baynard Ruins now stand as a reminder of this interesting part of Hilton Head Island?s local history.
