Like the Beaty-Little House, the Beaty-Spivey House is also one of the few surviving homes in the city of Conway that dates back to the 1800s. It was built around 1870 for Thomas Wilson Beaty and wife Mary Brookman Beaty. The Beaty family is quite prominent in the area, as Thomas served as a Secession Convention delegate, state representative, state senator, and Horry Weekly News? publisher and editor.
After Beaty?s death in 1886, his wife operated the home as a boarding house until it was purchased by Doctor Allen Spivey in 1902. Spivey served as the director and president of the Peoples National Bank of Conway, making his association to the house even more notable. The Beaty-Spivey House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
