Developed from four former rice plantations is the Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. It was established in 1932 by the Huntingtons on 9200 acres of land, a portion of which is included as a National Historic Landmark along with the Atalaya Castle, under the listing of Atalaya and Brookgreen Gardens.
The Brookgreen Gardens has a lot to offer, really. It has several themed gardens that are accented with figurative sculptures by Anna Hyatt Huntington, a couple of trails, a series of ecosystems, and the Lowcountry Zoo in its area of responsibility. There?s also the Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington Sculpture Garden which features 1444 artworks by Anna Huntington and other artists.
