The Button Museum is the brainchild of South Carolina?s undisputed Button King, Dalton Stevens. In a story that he shared, he was once plagued with insomnia and a decided to do something useful. He then started to sew buttons on a suit and in two years time the suit was covered with thousands of button. He later on explored on different techniques including adding buttons to shoes, guitar, even cars.
Eventually people became fascinated with his strange hobby and called him the Button King. He later on appeared on many shows including; the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and the David Letterman Show. He was also featured on numerous occasions on local and international TV. The museum was to share his passion and art to the public. There are hundreds of items in display that is covered with buttons, including a hearse, a coffin, a car, and many more.
Admission to the museum is free but the button king welcomes donations. The museum is located near the actual home of the Button King so most of the time he is around. It is open most days of the week but visitors are encouraged to call first before going to the location.
