Also known as the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, the Church of the Holy Cross is located in a scenic area in Stateburg, South Carolina. It is a historic building as well, being built in the early 1850s to serve as a worship place to settlers on the area.
Built using rammed earth, the Church of the Holy Cross was erected on a plot of land that used to be a part of General Thomas Sumter?s property. He donated the land to the parish, so the locals can have a nearby place to attend mass in. Dr. William Wallace Anderson led the committee that built the church.
The Church of the Holy Cross was declared as a National Historic Landmark in 1973.
